The Quarter • 27–28 Burgate, Canterbury

A Day for
the History Books.

On 25 March 2026, Canterbury becomes the centre of the world for a few extraordinary hours. The Quarter is opening its doors for the day. Come and be part of it.

Wednesday 25 March 2026

For the first time in 1,429 years of history, a woman will be installed as Archbishop of Canterbury. Today is a day unlike any other.

You Are Invited

History, unfolding
on our doorstep.

Canterbury Cathedral stands a matter of steps from The Quarter. Today, 1,850 invited guests including the Prince and Princess of Wales, Anglican Primates and church leaders from across the globe will fill those ancient precincts for a ceremony unlike any in living memory.

Whether you want a quiet desk for the morning whilst the city prepares, a comfortable place to watch the BBC broadcast of the installation at 3pm or simply good company and a glass raised at 5pm, The Quarter is your base for the day. Members, past members and friends are all welcome.

Our Location
Arrivals of dignitaries and VIPs are expected directly in front of our building. The view from the back of the office towards the Cathedral Precincts will be something to remember.
Getting Here Today
Road restrictions are in place from 8am. Burgate will be closed at the junction with Canterbury Lane. The Quarter remains fully accessible on foot via the city centre.

A running buffet,
all day long.

This is a day to savour. We are keeping The Quarter well stocked from the moment the doors open to the last glass raised in celebration.
